Text message app (SMS) read and unread

I am using the stock text app, and the difference between a new message and a read one is very little. The text is slightly darker when the message is unread. I tried to find a way to change it in the settings but I was not able to find a solution. All the other text apps in the playstore have one or another form of advertising running.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
