Disclaimer:
I received this unit for free to test and review.
A little about myself my preferences and my usage:
I have never used a battery case before, I am one of those people that generally like minimal protection and before receiving this product I used a clear TPU case with this phone. I was definitely concerned about the looks and bulk that would be added. I will say this, a case is needed for this phone, and the TPU one I was using provided a lot of needed grip.
Generally the Edge+ without and extended battery makes it through most my weekdays but every once while a quick 30 min charge is needed. On weekends I can definitely burn through the battery and battery life is always in the back of my head. If I plan on going out I need to be sure to put my phone on the charger before doing so.
The Edge+ for me gives me an average of about 3 to 3.5 hours of screen on time and sometimes I make it to 4 (rear).
Installation:
Installation was pretty strait forward and identical to the regular S6 Edge installation the details of which can be found here..
Pros:
The case is very nice looking (pictures don't server it justice) and well balanced. With the added bulk I was expecting something both gaudy looking and heavily balanced to the bottom. I was wrong on both accounts!
Quick charging still works.. When plugging your phone in quick charging (fast charging as Samsung calls it) still works Your phone will be the first to receive juice and once it is completed charging the battery will begin charging, although the ZeroLemon battery does not use quick charging.
The case ports the speaker from the bottom to the front of the phone. This is a very nice feature IHMO as I no longer block the sound on accident with my finger while holding the phone in landscape mode.
Extra battery life.. lol we all know why you are even looking at this case, it's because you want to extend your battery life. This case essentially doubles your battery. So for me I went from 3 to 3.5 hours of screen on time to 6 to 7 hours of screen on time.
In hand feel. The in hand feel is really nice after this case in installed although somewhat heavy. The curves really improve the overall feel in the hand.
Somewhat in the middle:
Protection. This case does a decent job of protecting your phone but it's defiantly no otter box. I feel like it could make it through a drop or two but that's about it.
Weight and bulk. This phone definitely gains some weight sand bulk when this battery / case in on it. If you are someone who has ever used a battery case this is expected.
Cons:
Audio jack. This is one of the biggest disadvantages. In order for your headphone to reach the 3.5 mm headphone jack a dongle was provided. I personally hate dongles as I know soon or later they will be lost. I wish a different solution was provided to this issue.
USB power jack on the side. When plugging your phone in for the night, the USB jack is now on the side of the phone. If for some reason you need to pick up the phone and use it while charging, this is a very inconvenient location as you have to move your hand around the cable and jack.
Verdict:
Should you buy this extended battery / case? If you don't mind dealing with the headphone dongle and don't use your phone while it is changing it (which will most definitely be less often with this product). Then yes you most definitely should. It's a great feeling product that does what it promises and also happens to be relatively cheap.
